In January of 2005 I was invited to go on a cruise of the British Virgin
Islands. The first thing I did was figure out how to pack my tripod. It wasn't
too difficult because most of my clothes consisted of shorts, t-shirts, socks,
and just to be safe, more shorts, t-shirts, and socks. You can never be too
careful. I don=t think I've ever had so much room in my suitcase, not that I
minded one bit.
I was expecting for security at the airport to give me some grief over asking
them to hand check 20 rolls of film but that wasn't a problem at all. They were
concerned about the Alan wrench and box wrench that I needed to re-assemble my
tripod. Of course I had to give over one of the items I really needed, but I=m
not complaining, it was much better than them scanning my film.
I had a glorious week sailing on a tall ship, drinking beer, eating excellent
meals, and having a blast. Envious yet? You should be.
I was up every day for sunrise to photograph, back again for sunset, even when
it was pouring rain, and waiting for some color. Unfortunately we only had one
good night for a sunset. But as you can see it was a beautiful one. "Sunset on
the Clipper 1" is one of my favorite images of the material I have so far.
