After attending a workshop in May of 2004 in California I decided to travel
around the Pacific Northwest and photograph. One of my favorite places was
Redwood National Park located just North of Orrick, CA. I've always loved
rainforests. For some reason I always feel at home under the canopy of massive
trees and the profusion of new growth.
I camped near the National park and could have easily spent a week in the area.
It was early May and there was very limited traffic. After speaking with a park
ranger I located an area in which the Rhodendrens were in bloom. I spent all day
working with the trees and flowers and couldn't have been happier. This image
came from that day.
I love the curving tree on the left with all of the moss growing on it. All of
the new growth mixed with ancient trees just blew me away. It was amazing to see
so many wild flowers in bloom. I wish I would have had more time in the area. I
was fortunate to have the time I did with all of this beauty.
