I had traveled to Taichung Taiwan to visit a friend for Chinese New Year when I
saw this photograph.
My friends room mate and I took off one afternoon to photograph temples. My
camera, a bunch of rolls of film, and a tripod, that wouldn't support a loaf of
bread, in a back pack we dodged between literally thousands of scooters, sucked
exhaust fumes, and narrowly avoided being crushed in the mass of humanity and
vehicles as we headed off.
At one of the temples we asked if it was alright to photograph by the standard
gesture of holding up your camera and pressing the shutter release button and
saying "O.K." a bunch of times. It was not only O.K. we were given a guided tour
of the temple. It was last light we had reached the top of the temple and I
snapped a number of pictures of one of the interior prayer rooms when I noticed
this huge metal grate with cut outs of the dragon and a number of other shapes.
I'm sure the grate told a story but I don't know what it was. I set up the
tripod and got only two shots before the sun set.
