Michael’s interest in photography began at the Grand Canyon with the gift of his first camera and began what was to become a continuing pattern; travel and a desire to record the scenes of distant lands. Multiple travels abroad with his father added fuel to the already burning fires of photography and a quest for new horizons. A desire to record the beauty that constantly surrounds us has led him to early morning walks with the changing light of dawn and the stillness of nature. These moments of time reflect the serenity and beauty nature offers us.

A desire to continually improve on his skills led Michael in May of 2004 to Bishop, CA and the late Galen Rowell’s “Mountain Light Gallery” to attend a 3 day workshop with National Geographic Photographer Frans Lanting.

Walking in the reflected light of the moon and silhouetted black trees has a completely different feel than does seeing the first direct rays of the sun as it peers over the horizon and illuminates the landscape. It is in part this feeling, the way in which the changing environment affects me, that I wish to convey in my photography.  I consider a photograph successful when it comes from my heart and becomes a reflection not only of the subject but more importantly how the scene has affected me. Every early morning expedition is a different and fascinating journey.
